The north lobby of Hoey Hall is called the Map Room due to the large painting on one wall of A Map of North America Depicting the Principle Expeditions of Discovery and Explorations, created by John Hession, Jr., in 1928. The dark wooded staircase, small balcony off the second floor, and large fireplace in the lobby give a cozy warmth to the space, which is often bustling with activity between classes as students pass between classrooms, the library, and the quad. Two-story windows with glass doors illuminate the map and provide an excellent view and access to the quad and other surrounding buildings.
