Cranbrook Schools Brookside is a school on children's own terms - a fanciful building full of nooks, crannies, classrooms, and activity areas that spark imagination and look at the world from a child's perspective. As Brookside has grown over the years, the school has become the most added-to and renovated building on the Cranbrook campus. The result is a friendly, rambling series of connected buildings that extend between Cranbrook Road and a small branch of the River Rouge, which inspires the name Brookside. Its maze-like corridors, storybook decoration, upstairs and downstairs, delight children who move through the building because it was created for people just their size.

The tower is the signature element of the historic Brookside School. Rising above the small courtyard and entrance to the school's main office, the tower has a spiral staircase that ascends to the observation deck at the top. From this height, Brookside and all its charming grounds make a captivating view. In creating the tower, Henry Scripps Booth remembered what it was like to be small and hoped to give the children a sense of presence in their world. This mission is central to the educational objectives and opportunities of today's Brookside.
