Visitors should enter campus at 39221 Woodward Avenue, turn left into the Kingswood parking lot, and park. Then walk west along the footpath to the Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Girls - Kingswood. Upon entering the building, please check in at the main office (first door on the right).
The new Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Girls - Kingswood building has three grade "clusters," each with its own common area, as well as a dining hall and library where the community can come together. The building features classrooms for language, history, English, and math and a science laboratory within each cluster; creative spaces dedicated to the art of dance, choral, and drama; and complete athletic facilities, including a full-size competition gymnasium.
Saarinen's influence and design details similar to those found in Kingswood are evident throughout the new space. The narrow structure allows light to diffuse throughout; built-in benches mirror those at Kingswood; common rooms extend the space visually, so as to bring a feeling of the outdoors inside; and a large display area showcases and celebrates our students' work. Interiors are open and loft-like, with some exposed roof trusses and controlled natural ventilation.
