Skidmore's independent boilers provide highly efficient heating to many campus buildings. These boilers replaced an aging central heating system which supplied steam through underground lines. Due to underground heat loss, the central heating system was only about 65% efficient. The independent boilers are 95% efficient, saving 25-30% of our natural gas load.
