    1. Carnegie Building

      This building is full of rich history, evident from the architecture and small details; like famous writers' names written above the exterior windows. The Carnegie Building is home to the Recruitment & Admissions. The building has 5 classrooms, faculty offices, and student lounge space. Many senior year classes are offered in this building because of the small classroom sizes.

       

      Interesting facts about the Carnegie Building:

      Built in 1904, the Carnegie Building was originally the Public Library in Brantford and was Laurier Brantford's first building back in 1999. At that time, the campus had only 39 students and two faculty members. Today we have grown to over 3,000 students and own or lease over 18 buildings.

       

      Murdoch Mysteries films on the steps of the Carnegie Building and is used as a courthouse in the series. 

    2. Student Centre

      Our Student Centre is run and owned by our students. It offers services, lounge spaces, campus clubs, our U-Desk for campus information, a multi-purpose room, and is home base for our Dean of Students. This building is open to student 24 hours a day, as long as they have their OneCard (Laurier Student ID) to access the building after regular work hours. 

       

      This 16,000-square-foot centre was built by Wilfrid Laurier University Students' Union (WLUSU) in partnership with the City of Brantford and Wilfrid Laurier University. 

       

      The services offered in this building include, our Student Wellness Centre for your mental and physical health needs, our Foot Patrol office where our student volunteers conduct our safe walk program, and our Diversity and Equity lounge space.

    3. Aboriginal Student Centre

      Within the Brantford campus' Student Support Services is the Aboriginal Student Services. The Aboriginal Student Services' mandate is to provide culturally-relevant, holistic student support services and programs to self-identified Aboriginal students (Status, Non-Status, Metis, Inuit).

       

      The Aboriginal Student Services Coordinator advocates for, and provides information to the Aboriginal student body in the areas listed but not limited to:

       

      - Community Support Systems 

      Academic Advice/supports

      - Bursaries, Scholarships, and Awards

      - Career Planning

      - On Campus Services

       

      Are you hungry? The Aboriginal Student House holds weekly soup and frybread lunches. All students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend. They are held every Tuesday between 11 and 2. Everyone is welcome!

       

      Interesting fact about the Aboriginal Student Centre:

      The Brantford campus has a number of heritage buildings, this house was originally a home to a family in Brantford in the 1890's.

    4. Wilkes House Residence and Recreation Centre

      Wilkes House is located on the WLU "Heritage Block," in close proximity to Post House Residence, and the Student Centre which both have heritage considerations in their design and architecture and directly behind the residence is the new Academic and Research Centre. Wilkes House is a unique combination of a first year residence and a recreation centre for all Brantford students. 

       

      This residence features 38 single rooms and 1 double room within 7 one-of-a-kind apartment suites. This (like all Brantford residences) is a co-ed building, with single-sex apartments. Each apartment has it's own kitchen, eating area, living room, bedrooms, and bathrooms. 

       

      Physical activity is an important part of the university lifestyle. Whether you are a weight-lifting pro or enjoy practicing yoga, the Wilkes House Recreation Centre offers something for everyone. The building opened on the Brantford campus in 2006 and is home to our cardio and weight room as well as a gymnasium when many of our intramural sports are played. All fitness classes are open to any students and come at no additional cost. 

       

      Our new Laurier/YMCA Athletic and Recreation Centre broke ground in August of 2014. It will be a $50 million dollar facility that will help meet the needs of our growing campus population.

       

      Interesting Facts about Wilkes House Gym:

      Wilkes House dates back to 1869, when it was home to Alfred Wilkes and his family, one of the founding families in Brantford. 

       

      At one point, Wilkes House Recreation Centre was the Boys and Girls Club, and an interesting Brantford fact is that Wayne Gretzky played ball hockey in the gym.

       

      When the building was being renovated, books were found in the walls. These books are now on display in the foyer of the Wilkes House residence building.

       

    5. Research and Academic Centre

      One of the newer additions to campus, the Research and Academic Centre is a $40M project that anchored the Heritage Block. The Research and Academic Centre's West Wing opened its doors in Fall 2010 and the East Wing opened in Fall 2011.

       

      The building includes some of our small and large lectures halls, state-of-the-art science labs (for our students in the BASc in Health Studies), the Aboriginal Circle room, Academic Advising & the Dean's Office, Laurier International, Stedman Community Bookstore, Brantford TechShop, and Golden Grounds Coffee House.

       

      This building is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified, which means that the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the building follows the standards of the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

    6. Post House Residence

      Centrally located on George St., Post House features 57 single rooms, in suites of 3, 4, or 7 students on 3 floors. Post House students also have access to the SC Johnson Great Hall on the first floor and large study room in the basement of the building. Entrances, suites, and bedrooms are all secured with key access. Mailboxes are shared by suite and are located in the front lobby of the building.

       

      Laundry facilities consist of 4 washers and 4 dryers located in the basement of the building. A vacuum is shared on each floor, while other cleaning amenities such as a mop, bucket, broom and dust pan are provided for each suite.

       

      General cleaning of hallway areas and maintenance is handled by residence custodial staff, however students are responsible for cleaning their bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathrooms.

       

      In addition to the standard television cable outlet available in the living room of each suite, wireless high speed internet access is available to students in their bedrooms and is included in residence fees.

       

      Interesting fact about Post House residence:

      Post House residence was Laurier Brantford's second residence building and opened in 2004. Originally Brantford's Post Office this building was built in the late 1880s. 

    7. Williams Fresh Cafe

      Owned and operated by the Wilfrid Laurier University Students' Union in Brantford, William's provides an on campus cafe for students as well as a place for studying and group meetings. Free wireless high speed internet is available for customers, and many students find it a desirable destination between classes and during the exam period.

       

      Williams Fresh Cafe is one of the businesses in downtown Brantford that accept the Laurier OneCard (Laurier Student ID) for payment. It is also one of the restaurants on the Brantford residence meal plan. 

    8. Library

      The Brantford Public Library is home to all Laurier Brantford holdings and the recently renovated third floor provides access to a number of electronic journals, study spaces and workshops. The library extends its hours of operation during the school months for additional study space.

    9. Grand River Hall

      Originally an office building, Grand River Hall is home to classrooms, Registrarial Services, Service Laurier and Residential Services. There is a medium sized lecture hall on the main floor, with smaller tutorial rooms in the basement. The basement is also home to our brand new Digital Library & Learning Commons, where you can find our librarians and have access to a number of computers, work space and even group meeting rooms.

       

      Service Laurier:

      This is your one stop shop for all things Laurier. Whether you're looking to pay your tuition bill, apply for parking, check your OSAP status, or even rent a locker on campus, they've got you covered. They make it easy to get what you need, so you can get on with your day. 

       

      Residence:

      Consisting of double and single rooms, Grand River Hall houses a maximum of 150 students on 3 floors in suites ranging in size from 3-7 students. 


      Laundry facilities are located centrally on each residence floor, as is the shared vacuum. Other cleaning amenities such as a mop, bucket, broom and dust pan are provided for each suite. General cleaning of hallways and maintenance is handled by residence custodial staff, however students are responsible for cleaning their bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathrooms.

    10. Harmony Square

      Harmony Square is a public space that offers our students a variety of options for dining, free outdoor skating in the winter, and outdoor movies and a splash pad in the summer. This beautiful space provides our urban campus with a beautiful outdoor space for students to sit outdoors and enjoy all four seasons that Canada in Southern Ontario offers.  

    11. Expositor Place Residence

      The newest addition to Brantford's residence community is Expositor Place.It houses 216 students on 5 floors, in suites ranging in size from 2-7 students. In addition to the residence facilities, Expositor Place also contains several student lounges, meeting rooms, underground parking as well as retail space.

       

      Student apartments come with standard television cable outlet available in the living room of each suite, and both wireless and wired high speed internet access (available to students in their bedrooms), with everything included in residence fees. 

       

      Access to the residence portion of the building is controlled by fobs at the main entrances, while students have key access to their individual residence suite and bedroom. 

       

      Interesting fact about the Expositor Place residence:

      The building gets its name from the newspaper (The Expositor), founded in 1852, which previously used the building for creating, printing and distributing their newspaper in downtown Brantford. 

    12. SC Johnson Building

      The SC Johnson building is one of our newer buildings at the Brantford campus. This building houses our Career Services, lecture halls, administrative offices, Alumni Services, and a quiet study lounge. 

       

      Interesting fact about the SC Johnson Building:

      This former CIBC building still contains two of the original bank vaults, original ceiling, staircase and fireplace. 

    13. Brantford Bus Terminal

      The Brantford bus terminal is where you can catch a ride anywhere in the city. No need to remember your change - your bus pass comes with your student fees, so you can ride the bus as much as you like all year long. 

    14. Nipissing Education Centre

      Renovated in September 2008, this building adds to the Nipissing Campus in Brantford. Build specifically for our Concurrent Education students, this four-storey building includes a number of classrooms and offices, lounge areas for students and an immersive kindergarten classroom.
