Construction began in May 1991 on the four courts and a parking lot located adjacent to the Roy Richards Memorial Gymnasium at a cost of approximately $80,000. Previously, teams had to practice and play at the Alto Park Recreation Complex due to the poor surface of the existing courts across the street from the Richards Gymnasium.
