  1. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Walking Tour

Visit a collection of memorabilia from our famous alumnus, Fred Rogers, we hold so dear.

    Stops

    1. Tiedtke Concert Hall – Virginia S. and W.W. Nelson Department of Music

      Enter through center doors.
A large portrait painted by local artist Don Sondag hangs proudly in the Fred Rogers Lobby. Here he is wearing his red sweater and putting on his sneakers. Please enter quietly as classes are in session.

    2. Walk of Fame

From Holt Avenue count over 15 stones on the top row.

A stone placed in his honor in March 1991 can be found in front of Lyman Hall, his old dormitory. See if you can find it among the other internationally known honorees (hint: it’s between Beethoven and Edith Wharton – top row – count 15 from the left) reading “Fred McFeely Rogers 1951 Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” The stone is from his hometown of Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

    3. Olin Library Archives

During regular library business hours please go to the front desk and request directions to the archives located in the basement.

A sweater, knitted by Fred Rogers’ mother and worn on his show, and a pair of his famous sneakers are kept in the College archives in the basement of Olin Library. Another of his iconic red cardigans is kept at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. A rare collection of books, handwritten letters, his yearbook from 1951, and photographs of Fred Rogers are also available for view on request.

These items can be seen on request by contacting the Rollins College Archives at archives@rollins.edu.  To minimize damage from light and ensure their long-term preservation, the sweater and sneakers are not on permanent display. However, the Archives staff is always happy to bring them out for visitors.

    4. Life is for Service Plaque

The “Life is for Service” plaque that inspired Fred Rogers is engraved in marble by Strong Hall. He carried a photo of the engraving in his wallet for the rest of his life.
