Mary Gray Deane, a New Paltz Athletics Hall of Fame member who served as a director of athletics and coach from 1924-59, serves as this field’s namesake. Offering a natural-grass outfield and a dirt infield, the facility is home to our NCAA Division III softball team. There is a double-wide hitting cage along the third-base line and a double-wide bullpen along the first-base line.
The bleachers around the first- and third-base lines seat approximately 100 spectators, but perhaps the best view of the field is from the hill just beyond the centerfield wall below the outside of the track. A windscreen with the new Hawk athletics logos emblazoned on it was hung on the outfield fence in 2010, and in 2011, both a state-of-the-art scoreboard beyond the rightfield wall and a backstop with the New Paltz logo were installed.
