The John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center is named in memory of John William Pope, Jr., a 1975 graduate of Campbell University. The arena is named in memory of Gilbert Craig Gore, late son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gore of Sunset Beach, NC.
The arena serves not only as a sports venue but also as a gathering place for community concerts and events. The John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center also features a Sports Hall of Fame Lobby, the Ed Gore Family Hospitality Suite, a student fitness center, classrooms for the Exercise Science Department, a practice court, wrestling practice room, offices and locker rooms for basketball, volleyball, and wrestling.
