        Today’s workforce hungers for creative problem solvers—people who can catapult fresh ideas ahead of the competition.

        Whether your goal is to be a visual artist, become a museum curator, or pursue a broad-based education that will prepare you for a wide range of careers, the Hartford Art School will cultivate your creativity.

        We offer eight undergraduate studio degree programs and a bachelor’s in art history. Our Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts graduate programs are designed for practicing artists seeking a terminal degree while maintaining their professional careers.

      2. Renée Samuels Center

        Renée Samuels Center

        The Renée Samuels Center provides the University's Hartford Art School with a vigorous and exciting new dimension that reflects the creativity and energy that has for long been the hallmark of the School. The Renée Samuels Center is a 15,000-square-foot, two-story addition to the art school that allows students to explore the creative potential of digital technology in a space that promotes interaction among a variety of artistic disciplines. Among the programs housed here is the cross-disciplinary Integrated Media Arts (IMA) major, which reflects the engagement of new imaging technologies in contemporary art with a study of their cultural impact.

      3. Silpe Gallery and Joseloff Gallery

        Silpe Gallery and Joseloff Gallery

        The Hartford Art School Galleries include the Joseloff Gallery, the Donald and Linda Silpe Gallery, Kaman Print Study Center, and Art on Campus. These exhibition spaces inspire our community throughout the year and engage with students daily through creative visual experiences.

        Printmaking Shop

        The Department of Printmaking is housed in Taub Hall and offers spacious, well-lit studios with full facilities for the production of lithographs, etchings, all modes of relief printing, book arts, monotype, and photo-process printing.

      5. Sculpture Studios

        Sculpture Studios

        The Department of Sculpture is housed in three adjoining buildings totaling 8,600 square feet. It contains semi-private studios for undergraduates majoring in sculpture, as well as two galleries that exhibit work on a rotating basis throughout the academic year.

      6. Ceramics Center

        Krieble Ceramics Center

        The Department of Ceramics is housed in the Krieble Ceramics Center. Electric wheels, slab roller, clay extruder, clay and glaze laboratories, semi-private space for senior students, and 15 kilns (wood, raku, soda, salt, electric, and gas) may be found in these facilities.

      7. Integrated Media Arts Studio

        Integrated Media Arts Studio

        The Department of Integrated Media Arts facilities are located in the Renée Samuels Center and include a full 4K two-camera video production studio, video and audio computer editing lab, animation lab, and a project presentation space, the MEDIABOX.

      8. Harry Jack Gray Center (HJG)

        Harry Jack Gray Center

        The Harry Jack Gray Center is located at the center of campus by the flagpoles, and is home to Harrison Libraries, where you can take a break from studying and enjoy a hot drink at the always popular Starbucks at Goodwin Café. The Center also houses the University of Hartford Conference Center, Wilde Auditorium, the Joseloff Gallery, the Campus Store, studios for art, radio, and television, the School of Communication, space for the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture's architecture programs, and the 1877 Club, which offers space for special events and monthly community luncheons.

        Visual communication design majors utilize our digital computer labs to create motion graphics, product packaging, advertising pieces, and so much more. Photography majors also study digital technologies in addition to their black and white and color wet processes, studio practices, and a variety of historical techniques.

      10. East Hall (E)

        East Hall

        East Hall houses classrooms and faculty offices of the Department of Psychology. The building contains smart classrooms, a multipurpose conference room, a student lounge, and student work spaces.

        Art History Department

        The art history Bachelor of Arts program offers students a wide variety of courses that cover art from around the globe—Western, African, Mesoamerican, and Asian—and creative traditions in painting, sculpture, graphic arts, decorative arts, ritual objects, architecture, photography, design, performance, experimental media, and eco-art.
