Energy Challenge
The Energy Challenge is a competition between the buildings on campus to reduce their energy use by behavior changes of the people who live and work in those facilities. It is a program that originated at IU Bloomington 10 years ago -- with the conclusion of the most recent challenge achieving savings of 760,314 KWh of electricity and 877,416 gallons of water. Following in the footsteps of IUB, a Greening IUPUI Grant was written by a student in 2017 that successfully funded the development of IUPUI’s own Energy Challenge. The inaugural challenge was between residence life on campus – consisting of Ball Hall, University Tower, and North Hall.
Ball Hall, Tower, and North Hall collectively saved 38,408.8 KWh of electricity compared to their baseline- This is the same use as 70,060 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle, 3.1 homes energy use for a year, or 31,274 pounds of coal burned.
