The Olive Court was named for the fine olive tree which shades one corner. In the pavement of the court, in mosaic, is the college motto, Dante's Incipit Vita Nova, selected by Dr. Hartley Burr Alexander. Southernmost among the courts on the west side of Clark Hall was a charming herb garden. It is hoped that after the war this use of the court can be restored.
