    1. The Immaculata

The Immaculata Catholic Church, built in 1956, is a prominent landmark of the USD campus. However, it is not technically a part of the university, as it is owned by the Diocese of San Diego. The Immaculata is the largest Catholic church building in the San Diego Diocese. Atop the blue mosaic-tile dome is the statue of Our Lady of Grace which was created by artist Chris Mueller. The cast-stone statue towers almost eleven feet above the dome and weighs an estimated four and one-half tons.
