Changingmaking at USD: Centers and Spaces
There are numerous centers and spaces on campus to support students' pursuit of changemaking.
Black Student Resource Commons
The BSRC seeks to enhance and increase student success and retention by building community engagement, facilitating identity development and supporting students' college experience. At the BSRC, we strive to support the academic, social and personal goals of all Black students at the University of San Diego.
Student Leadership and Involvement Center
The SLP is a place where every student can find a way to plug in, whether that is through getting involved in ASG, Greek Life, doing community engagement with the Mulvaney Center, getting involved at the Changemaker Hub, or taking part in the many initiatives created by the Commons on the fourth floor: LGBTQ+Allies Commons, Women's Commons, UFMC Commons and Black Student Resource Commons.
LGBTQ+Allies Commons
As a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university, USD's Core Values include Community:
LGBTQ+ at USD is a community of students, staff, administrators, faculty, and alumni who identify as and/or advocate for all persons regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression. We are committed to support, education, and scholarship for and about the LGBTQ+ and Allies community.
Women's Commons
In support of the Division of Student Affairs' mission, the
Women's Commons invites students to find voice, develop skills for transformation and understand who they are called to be.
Mulvaney Center
As a core value, community engagement reflects the mission of USD, and embraces the Catholic moral and social tradition by its commitment to serve with compassion, to foster peace, work for justice, and prepare leaders dedicated to ethical conduct and compassionate service. Through reciprocal community-based learning, the Mulvaney Center engages USD students, faculty, staff, and alumni to learn and act in partnership with the community, and make life-long commitments to promote social change and justice.
Outdoor Adventures
Outdoor Adventures (OA) serves the USD community with opportunities to experience outdoor activities that aim to promote personal growth, leadership development, relationship building and environmental responsibility. We offer a variety of local, regional and international outings that includes Pre-Orientation Adventure, overnight trips, outdoor recreation classes and day trips around San Diego. We also operate a rental shop and resource center for individuals that choose to venture on their own excursions and need some equipment or guidance.
Military and Veterans Programs
The
USD Military & Veterans Program provides student-focused services to all USD military-connected students, from their initial consideration of higher education (Access), through services when they are enrolled as students (Support) and in their transition to alumni status (Connect). USD MVP services enhance military and veteran students’ abilities to achieve their higher education and career goals, effectively, from a quality institution, while using their benefits as efficiently as possible.
Student Support Services
Student Support Services is jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the University of San Diego to serve eligible undergraduates at USD. The program provides opportunities for academic development, assists with college requirements, and serves to retain and motivate students towards the successful completion of their post-secondary education at USD.
