Holmes Plaza, dedicated on October 27, 1987, is named in memory of Haden C. and Lucy Pannill Holmes, who worked hard to create beauty and encourage education. Funding for the plaza was provided by the late James F. Hurley, III in loving memory of his grandparents.
Mr. Hurley was the publisher of the Salisbury Post, a Catawba College trustee, and the general chairman of the Campaign for Excellence.
