Location: West patio of McConnell Center (accessible through the dining hall)
This 34'x31' acrylic mural was created in 2006 by muralist Paul Botello and students. The theme was based on Pitzer College’s concern for the protection of our world and our natural environment. Great compassion and empathy conjured anthropomorphic images where the trees become people, all living in a glass sphere, a fragile metaphor for the world. The tree people are reaching up for the oranges, symbols of knowledge, these oranges merge into the planets of the cosmos. Outside of this world, a family of caretakers share the responsibility of protecting and nurturing he planet. The father and mother are teaching their child to venerate the greatest treasure for the future of everyone.
