    Stops

    1. Center for Science & Business: South Entrance A

On this Panoramic Tour of the 112 acre Monmouth College campus, you will be introduced to its academic facilities by a series of 360-degree photos. These are like Google Street Map photos where you can use your mouse (or hand movements on a touch-screen) to rotate your view in any direction. Let’s get started.
With one of the finest small college campuses in the nation, Monmouth’s community of scientists, business leaders, educators, athletes and dreamers get more from their undergraduate experience due to the breadth and depth of the college’s well-integrated curriculum that develops and transforms the whole person. Our first stop, outside the new $42 million Center for Science and Business, is a good example of this dedication to student success. Before going inside the building at the next stop, feel free to rotate the picture to view the fine neighborhood in which the college is located – well-maintained Victorian homes in a quiet and safe setting.
    2. Center for Science & Business: South Entryway Interior

Here in the front lobby of the Center for Science and Business, displays tell the story of the exceptional history of Monmouth College. This starts with a commitment, from the very beginning, to admitting female students into the programs of the college. Also shown are alumni such as the former CEO and chairman of Ford Motor Company returning to Monmouth College to speak to students.
Whether your major is one of the sciences, mathematics, economics, accounting, international business or general business, within the halls of this building you will have the opportunity to integrate an appreciation for both the science and business aspect of your field and therefore stand out from others seeking employment after graduation. Rotating the picture to the right will show the entrance to the Biology Wing which contains many laboratories including, a greenhouse, a nutrition lab, and a cadaver lab. In addition to these fine facilities, the college also maintains numerous outdoor laboratories in the area including stands of native prairie grasses, ponds, streams, and woodlands plus a market farm. Students interested in studying nursing also have access to one of the finest cooperative programs in the country.

By rotating the picture to the left, the entrance into the Haywood Business Wing can be seen – it is our next stop on this tour.
    3. Center for Science & Business: Rm 276 Moot Board Room

Here in the Moot Board Room, students who study Business, International Business, Accounting, and Economics learn not only the specifics of their industries, but also are inspired by faculty members to develop critical thinking skills that will result in faster and more sustained advancement in their careers. Monmouth students also get off to a good start after graduation due to the 99% placement rate in jobs or graduate school within six months of graduation.

Students from across the college including those involved in Pre-law also use this room to hewn their skills at argument and debate. With the county courthouse just a few blocks away, judges and attorneys often participate in educational Moot Court proceedings here.

Attesting to the strength of the Monmouth Accounting major, since the year 2000, fourth-year students have always had an average score that places the program in the top 5% to top 25% of The Master Field Test in Business.
    4. Center for Science & Business Interior 4

Located between a parallel computing laboratory and a nuclear physics laboratory, this is the largest lecture hall at Monmouth College. Often used for presentations from visiting speakers, topics range from archaeological discoveries to political analysis to scientific research. Executives and thought leaders in business and economics frequently present here also. Students learn to enjoy a “life of the mind” at college as they discover new areas of interest which benefit them in both their careers and in their personal lives.

The average class at Monmouth has thirteen students and the faculty/student ratio is an outstanding 11:1.
    5. Center for Science & Business: Veterans Memorial Great Room

Surrounded by faculty offices and conference rooms, this two-story atrium is a central meeting place and study area for members of all academic disciplines. With the many opportunities in research and other out-of-the-classroom work, it would not be unusual to meet with a professor in this setting. Research opportunities are made available in a broad selection of disciplines – not just science. Incoming students can even participate in a research project the summer prior to starting college at Monmouth by working alongside other students and professors in new and well equipped laboratory and research settings.

In collaboration with your professor, you may contribute to research that is published or presented at professional conferences.
    6. Center for Science & Business: Mellinger Commons

This study area is located alongside the Provisions On Demand coffee and sandwich shop. Here students study together or individually, in a brightly lighted yet quiet setting. In the evenings, invited speakers may also present on a wide variety of topics and catered receptions and award dinners are held here.
In the Center for Science and Business, with personal access to such equipment as a research grade telescope, mass spectrometers, massively parallel computers, plus other resources available to Monmouth students such as a national laboratory and stands of virgin native prairie grass, your hands-on undergraduate experiences will outshine those of most college students.
    7. Dahl Chapel and Auditorium 1

Designed by noted architect Dan Everett Waid, a Monmouth College graduate, the Old English-style brick and limestone Dahl Chapel and Auditorium is the college's oldest academic building. Extensively renovated and restored a few years ago, the elegant building is used for concerts, worship, convocations, and other large-capacity events. Campus musical groups that perform here include Choirs and Chorales, a capella groups, Concert Bands, Orchestra, and gospel groups. Guest musical performances are regularly held here and there is no charge to students to attend.
    8. Dahl Chapel and Auditorium 2

In this acoustically excellent facility, many nationally known musicians, business leaders, scientists, academicians, and religious leaders, are featured throughout the year. Student groups of all kinds also practice and perform here on a regular basis.

In 2014 and 2015 alone, superb performances by visiting artists included cellists, brass ensembles, and a virtuosic pianist. Speakers included an international authority on interfaith cooperation, a Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist, experts in food security, touring comedians, and the presidents and entrepreneurial founders of large companies, to name just a few.

With its performance hall seating 600, this elegant and traditional setting also hosts a weekly non-denominational chapel service. The lower level features performance rooms for both choir and band, instrument storage, dressing rooms and a comfortable green room.
    9. Poling Hall

The tree-studded and spacious Monmouth College campus has been described as one of the finest small college campuses in the nation – and for good reason. Over $120 million in new building and restorations have been invested since 2002. Straight ahead is Poling Hall, to its left the Huff Athletic Center, to its left the Center for Science and Business, and to its left the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium – all new since 2002 or extensively restored and upgraded.

Here, on the oldest part of campus, every living alumnus, over 12,000 of them, spent time developing their skills at writing, critical thinking, music, theatre, and/or art, and the pursuit of becoming better prepared to address the needs of an ever changing future.
    10. Poling Hall: Main Lobby

Home to Monmouth’s exceptional Wackerle Career and Leadership Center, this career guidance and career counseling facility has helped Monmouth graduates achieve an exceptional 99% employment rate within six months of graduation (for employment or graduate study). The well-staffed and highly resourced center can advise students from the very beginning of their college careers in preparation for a meaningful and lucrative profession. It provides assistance with discerning the right career path, finding internships, and connecting students with the college’s broad alumni network. The center remains available to all graduates throughout their lives.

The Office of Residence Life & Housing and the Business Office are also housed on the main floor, Counseling Services and The Office of Security are located on the lower level.

Built in 1907, Poling Hall was completely renovated in part by donations from Harold Poling, a Monmouth College graduate, former chairman of Ford Motor Company, and generous supporter the college.
    11. Poling Hall: Second Floor Lobby

The college’s approachable and caring professors are a highlight of student experience at Monmouth. Over 85% earned the Ph.D. or other terminal degree and have substantial real-world experience which aids in their teaching. With degrees from a wide number of universities including The University of Chicago, Northwestern, Stanford, and Princeton, the close relationships students build with their professors serve them well at college and into their working careers.

Here, on the second floor of Poling Hall, the Teaching and Learning Center further augments the learning experience by offering additional individualized tutoring assistance to all students. Also located on this floor is the Registrar and a large meeting room where guest speakers often present on a variety of topics including new findings in history, archaeology and political science.

Looking west from the long row of residence halls, visitors get a great view of the college’s many facilities. While there is seating for nearly 3,000 fans in April Zorn Memorial Stadium, many choose to catch the action while picnicking on the green space between the stadium and residence halls.

Just south of the stadium is The Hewes Library which also houses the campus computer center, two art galleries, an archaeology laboratory, and an Einstein Brothers Bagels shop. Trek a little farther down the gentle grade to the Stockdale Center for lunch in the cafeteria or in the Scotland Yard café.
