    Stops

    1. Huff Athletic Center: Main Concourse South

Monmouth College athletics facilities are among the finest in the nation. The 155,000 square foot Huff Athletic Center is the home of Fighting Scots athletics. Opened in 2003, the $22-million complex incorporates three separate structures into one sensational sports, recreation and fitness center.

Visitors are struck by the expansive main concourse which is bordered by the athletic department offices, Glennie Gymnasium, Pepper Natatorium and the Fieldhouse. Pick the right day and Fighting Scots fans might be able to watch a track meet, basketball game or swim meet all from the main concourse.

The fall and spring are busy seasons at “The Huff.” Volleyball takes center stage at Glennie Gym in the fall and the swimming pool gets plenty of use when the men’s and women’s water polo teams train and compete in NCAA competition in the fall and spring.

The roster of Monmouth athletes includes nine national champions and a Medal of Honor winner.
    2. Huff Athletic Center: Pepper Natatorium

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving and water polo teams make full use of the light-filled Pepper Natatorium which houses an 8-lane, 25-yard competition pool and includes a steam room and sauna.

A viewing gallery offers plenty of seating to watch the Fighting Scots aquatic teams in action. Fans also line the upper level concourse to enjoy meets through floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a full view of the action below.

Regularly scheduled open swim times allow any student to enjoy the pool, sauna, and hot tub facilities.
    3. Huff Athletic Center: Glennie Gynasium

Glennie Gymnasium received a makeover as part of the construction of the multi-million dollar Huff Athletic Center. The grand windows from the concourse and skylights overhead make for a bright venue and nothing has been brighter than the Fighting Scots teams that call Glennie home.

The gymnasium sees action in the fall when the Fighting Scots’ extremely successful volleyball team takes the court. Coach Kari Shimmin is the winningest volleyball coach in Monmouth history. Fans pack the stands when Shimmin’s spikers hit the court.

Men’s and women’s basketball also call Glennie home. With multiple NCAA tournament appearances, men’s basketball has one of the longest and most storied traditions of all Fighting Scots athletics programs.

The women’s basketball team made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012. The 2013 squad built on that success and earned the Scots their first national ranking.
    4. Huff Athletic Center: Trotter Fitness Complex 2

The athletic facility that gets the most regular use at Monmouth is the Trotter Fitness Complex. Available to the entire campus community, this popular facility retains some of the distinctive architectural details of the original gymnasium. The original exposed steel trusses installed in 1925 still support the broad ceiling.

Once fitness-minded individuals take their eyes off the stunning architectural features, they can get in shape on the numerous aerobic bikes and treadmills. The complex also has a variety of resistance training stations and free weights. The dance studio can also get your heart pumping and is used for everything from yoga classes to intramural table tennis.

For those of a bit more adventurous nature, try out the climbing wall.
    5. Huff Athletic Center: Trotter Fitness Complex

More strength and endurance equipment awaits you in Trotter’s main free weight area. A mirrored half wall separates the more aerobic oriented ‘front end” of the fitness complex from the more substantial weight lifting area where any student can muscle up and pump the heavy iron.

Many varsity teams have their own individual workouts tailored for the sport and individual. They chart their progress by keeping a weekly log of their workout routine.

All students can take full advantage of Monmouth’s variety of workout stations. From squats to pull ups to crunches and everything in between, the Trotter Fitness Complex offers a wide range of workout options.
    6. Huff Athletic Center: Main Concourse North

The stately columns of the original Wade Gymnasium constructed in 1925 now frame the Trotter Fitness Center and accompanying snack bar. Monmouth’s student-athletes have the advantage of a full range of exercise equipment in Trotter to stay in top condition year ‘round.

Fans may view the indoor track action from above the Niblock Track, a 200-meter, six-lane facility which also supports four multi-use courts. The long, spacious concourse provides a bird’s-eye view of all the action below.

In the winter and early spring the track, golf, tennis, baseball and softball teams take advantage of this tremendous facility while waiting for spring to arrive. A two tunnel batting cage helps Scots’ student-athletes get more live reps in half the time.
    7. Huff Athletic Center

Once outside the Huff Athletic Center’s north entrance, you’ll be on your way to Monmouth’s grand “backyard” which houses the Melinger Teaching and Learning Center, a variety of residence halls and the sports complex for football, track, softball and tennis.

Monmouth’s residence halls just outside the Huff Athletic Center are the perfect blend of old and new, combining the historical charm of the traditional residence halls with the high-tech modern conveniences of the college’s newest buildings.

The historical Tudor-Style Melinger Teaching and Learning Center includes a student Writing Center and a 24-hour computer lab and is just a stone’s throw from the Huff Athletic Center’s north entrance.

April Zorn Memorial Stadium, home to the Fighting Scots’ highly successful football and track and field teams, and the Monmouth College softball field are just a short walk from the Huff Athletic Center.
    8. Monmouth College Softball Field

The Fighting Scots softball diamond is located east of April Zorn Memorial Stadium. A berm beyond the outfield fence, which measures 210’ to all fields, leads to a sand volleyball court, a practice area for the football team, a throw area for track and field and six lighted tennis courts at the northwest corner of the campus.

While bleacher seating for softball is available behind the backstop, fans may choose to sit on the outfield berm to catch all the action, and a home run ball or two. Fans are often seen, and heard, cheering from nearby Graham residence hall, and they’ve had plenty to cheer about. The softball team has qualified for the exclusive four-team conference tournament every year but once during John Goddard’s tenure as head coach. The Scots have also produced three All-Region players and 15 All-America Scholar-Athletes since 2011.

In the fall, the lighted sand volleyball court is the big draw for intramural competition.
    9. Monmouth College Tennis Stadium

Located at the northwest corner of the campus and constructed in 2002 at cost of $1 million, the Monmouth College Tennis Stadium stands across the street from the college’s Quinby House, home to the college president. With six lighted courts, the stadium gives visitors a panoramic view of many of the college’s residence halls, sports facilities and academic buildings.

Monmouth tennis has been on a roll winning six conference singles and doubles titles since 2011. The Scots produced an Academic All-American in 2011.

Fans attending Fighting Scots’ matches may choose to view the action from the terraced seating and picnic in the gazebo.
    10. Peacock Memorial Athletic Park: Glasgow Field

One of the best Division III baseball fields in all of the Midwest, Glasgow Field opened for play in 2000 and two years later played host to an NCAA Regional Tournament when the Scots won their 15th conference title.

With field dimensions of 330’ down the lines, 360’ in the power alleys and 385’ to center, it takes a good poke to knock a pitch out of the park and the high-capacity drainage system makes rainouts nearly unheard of.

The field’s amenities include a dual-tunnel batting cage, full-size bullpens down each line, large brick dugouts, a press box and modern restroom facilities. Fans often bring a grill and hold cookouts during Scots games, making for a fun atmosphere.

The Scots must enjoy playing on their home field as 13 players have been named All-Region since Glasgow Field opened in the spring of 2000.
    11. Peacock Memorial Athletic Park: Soccer Fields

Situated inside Peacock Memorial Athletic Park, the Monmouth College Soccer Complex boasts two game-quality fields. The fields were constructed as part of a $1.3 million project that included construction of baseball’s Glasgow Field to the west.

Student-athletes will be hard pressed to find a better natural grass surface anywhere in the Midwest. The carpet-like grass is meticulously manicured by a staff supervised by a retired golf course superintendent who brings that attention to detail to the soccer pitch.

The field isn’t the only thing getting rave reviews at the complex. The Scots have earned four All-Region honors since 2011.

Fans taking a break at halftime or between games might choose to tour the college’s 16.5 acre LeSuer Nature Preserve and Biology Field Station by taking the hiking trail located just to the south of the soccer fields. Also, to the north, is the verdant and tree-studded Gibson Woods golf course, home to Monmouth College golf.
    12. April Zorn Memorial Stadium

The longtime home of the Fighting Scots got a $4.6 million new stadium in 2008 making it one of the best venues around for football and track and field. The work included adding a single level press box, synthetic field turf, lights and a video scoreboard with instant replay.

Since 2005, the Scots football team has claimed four conference titles, earning berths in the NCAA playoffs each year. The stadium played host to three NCAA Tournament games shortly after its upgrade.

Track takes center stage in the spring when the eight-lane, 400-meter track comes to life. Separate hammer throw and javelin areas were constructed to the west of the stadium. The large video display board gives fans real time results of the day’s races. The track and field team has produced at least one All-American every year since 1984, including nine national champions.

Men’s and women’s varsity Lacrosse will be added to the spring agenda for the stadium in 2017.

When it’s time for students to hit the books, it’s a short sprint to The Hewes Library located just outside the stadium’s main gate.
    13. Hewes Library: East Entrance

The view from southeast of April Zorn Memorial Stadium is nothing short of amazing.

Looking west from the long row of residence halls, visitors get a great view of the college’s many facilities. While there is seating for nearly 3,000 fans in April Zorn Memorial Stadium, many choose to catch the action while picnicking on the green space between the stadium and residence halls.

Just south of the stadium is The Hewes Library which also houses the campus computer center, two art galleries, an archaeology laboratory, and an Einstein Brothers Bagels shop. Trek a little farther down the gentle grade to the Stockdale Center for lunch in the cafeteria or in the Scotland Yard café.
