    1. Rebecca Sealy Building

Originally St. Mary's Hospital and acquired for the university in 1996, Rebecca Sealy is named in memory of the wife of John Sealy I. Although no longer a site for clinical care, the structure houses administrative and business offices for various departments, classroom and training areas, and support infrastructure (such as a mail services, IT and police) for the university. Rebecca Sealy, the building's namesake, and her brother-in-law George Sealy were instrumental in determining that John Sealy's bequest of $50,000 for "a charitable purpose" be used to build the first John Sealy Hospital. She was also a major force in the subsequent founding in 1890 - the year the hospital opened - of the first nursing school in Texas, Galveston's John Sealy Hospital Training School for Nurses.
