Opened in 1983, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital is the state's major provider of inmate health care and is the only hospital in the nation affiliated with a university and dedicated exclusively to prisoners.
The facility includes inpatient beds, a multi-service ambulatory care center, a minor operating room with a recovery room, a telemetry unit, a medical intensive care unit, and an overnight holding unit.
