A historical marker was placed in recognition of Isaac Newton Blackford.
Isaac Newton Blackford came to Indiana in 1812 from New Jersey. A graduate of Princeton University, he started he held various positions, moving through the ranks in the judicial system of Washington County and as a Circuit Judge.
In 1816, Blackford was appointed the position of the first Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, a position he held until 1817. After completing his term as House Speaker, Blackford went on to become an Indiana Supreme Court Justice until 1853. From there, he was appointed a position with the United States Court of Claims adjudicating various cases until his death in 1859.
