The tunnel in the east-west coordinates runs from 2nd Street to Hill St. on the east to Figueroa St. on the west under L.A.'s Bunker Hill in downtown Los Angeles. It is one of the most photographed and filmed locations in the city, appearing in many films, commercials and advertising shoots. It's interior walls and ceiling are lined with glossy white tile which gives the 1500 ft. tunnel a visual radiant glow at all hours of the day and night. The tunnel was started in 1916 and completed in 1924 to much fanfare and a bit of controversy. The lights used in its ceiling were manufactured in Germany which was too recent an enemy from World War I.
