    1. Grand Central Market

Grand Central Market is located in the ground floor of the Homer Laughlin Building, which was designed by noted L.A. Architect John Parkinson. The market has been in operation since 1917 when it was opened to serve elite residents of Bunker Hill, who rode down the funicular, Angel's Flight, from their stately homes to buy their groceries. In the 1920s the building served as an office for American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Grand Central Market has always served as a food hub for the downtown clientele and today is no different. Its open air environment that stretches from Broadway to Hill St. hosts an international array of eateries, gourmet coffee, fresh fruit and vegetable stands and more. It consistently ranks as Angelino's Top 10 favorite eating places in the city, due to it's national-caliber eating experience that showcases California's best ingredients, chefs, and entrepreneurs. A 30,000 square-foot arcade encompasses a food emporium and retail marketplace offering downtown a shared gathering place and a dynamic grub hub. In 1984, downtown visionary Ira Yellin, a successful developer with an academic interest in urban planning and historical preservation, bought Grand Central Market and adjacent properties including the Million Dollar Theater, as well as the landmark Bradbury Building across the street.
