You know it's the happiest place on earth, there is no denying that. The true vision of the man himself, a magical theme park built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. Green Facts: Did you know they continue to make the Magic More Sustainable at Disneyland Amusement park Company founder Walt Disney was an early advocate for environmental consciousness, calling for vigilant stewardship of natural resources many decades before it became a popular cause. Since 1955 his original magic kingdom, Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., has grown into two theme parks, three hotels and a shopping, dining and entertainment district, all of which follow responsible environmental practices. From inner-park transportation railroad trains that circle the property use a soy-based biodiesel to fuel their steam boilers. Mark Twain Riverboat burns a blend of cooking oil biodiesel as it paddles down the Rivers of America. Succulents and native plants that require minimal water populate the landscape, and recycling receptacles are conveniently located in both back-of-house and guest areas. Two-thirds of the storm drains at Disneyland park flow to one of a number of interconnected waterways (the Rivers of America, Storybook Land canals, Castle Moat and Jungle Cruise), which retains a great deal of storm water while providing natural biological treatment. Backstage buildings behind Disney California Adventure park use porous asphalt to capture filter and return rainwater back into the ground, serving as a natural filtration system. Seven acres of porous asphalt were incorporated into the design of the Toy Story Parking Lot. Drought-tolerant plants can be found in landscape in several lands and attractions, such as Cars Land, Frontierland, Autopia and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Alternative fuels are also employed in Disneyland, such as the biodiesel made from cooking oil for the Disneyland Railroad steam trains and Mark Twain Riverboat. Several attraction ride systems do not release any harmful emissions into the air (e.g. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage). Twenty ChargePoint electric vehicle charging ports are available in the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure for guest use and ten additional charging ports are available for cast member use at the Team Disney Anaheim parking structure. A thermal energy storage tank provides a more energy-efficient cooling process for buildings inside Disney California Adventure park.
