The Gardens of the World at La Canada Public Library each highlight planting options from one of the five California climate compatible regions of the world: California, of course, the Mediterranean basin, Australia, Chile, and South Africa.
La Canada Valley Beautiful and FormLA Landscaping worked in partnership to create the Gardens of the World. They aimed to beautify this high-profile community space, save water, demonstrate the aesthetic of LA climate friendly gradens, and serve as a resource for both property owners and professional landscapers.
The Gardens have been a resource to LA throughout the recent drought. FormLA Landscaping’s designs and plant palettes for each garden are available in the La Canada Public Library, in Pinterest, and on the La Canada Valley Beautiful website. From 2008-2016, the Gardens were maintained through free community workshops hosted by FormLA Landscaping and La Canada Valley Beautiful.
The California State Legislature recognized the Gardens’ contribution to public education and water savings in 2015, and the publicly accessible gardens have been featured on multiple U.S. Green Building Council home and garden tours.
The garden is managed and maintained by La Cañada Valley Beautiful and the La Cañada Flintridge community.
