Simoneau House
456 Van Buren Street
This historic building was home to a popular Monterey restaurant in the latter part o the 19th century. The restaurant was frequented by a broad range of immigrants and bohemian artists such as Robert Louis Stevenson, who remained in correspondence with the owner, Jules Simoneau, throughout his life. The building was acquired by the Institute in 1974. For the past forty years it has been a central part of the campus, serving as different administrative offices, the campus bookstore, the career center, the Alumni Office and campus gift shop, and currently as a classroom with breakout rooms.
